HUBSPOT did the research and compared blogging, social media, SEO (organic links), direct marketing, telemarketing, Paid Per Clicks (PPC), and trade shows. These are their definitions:
Inbound marketing: marketing material and methods used to in ways that its' found by potential customers
Outbound marketing: sending your marketing material out to specific
* This does not count Paid Per Click (PPC) which I think is not a good method to use.
